1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 books new

Have a preschooler in your family? Join this national initiative that helps children get ready for kindergarten by encouraging parents and families to read regularly to young children.

Come in to receive reading logs and a free book to get your young person started. Each time your family completes a reading log of 100 books, come in for a fresh log and a star to add to our Reading Universe. When your child reaches 500 and 1000 books, they’ll receive another free book!

Why read 1,000 books before Kindergarten?

Reading high-quality books at home is one of the best ways to get your child ready for school. Reading 1000 books sounds like a lot; but if you read just 3 picture books with your child every day, you will read over 1000 books in a year!

What about rereading books? Rereading old favorites helps brains grow. Reading a book your child already knows strengthens connections in the brain, ensuring those connections stay put as your child continues to learn new things. And, each instance of reading counts towards your 1000 books.
