Interior of Makerspace lab

Tools & Equipment

Most of the equipment in the Makerspace is available for use by patrons of any age. These are items that pose very little safety risk and are not overly complicated to use. Some of the equipment, however, is more complex and is capable of injuring someone if used improperly. These pieces of equipment require certification for use.

Certifications can be completed by anyone 15 and older. The certification process involves reading the overview for the particular piece of equipment, answering a short quiz, then demonstrating basic knowledge of the equipment. Reading the overview and answering the quiz can be done online. Demonstrations require in-person evaluation.

Each overview will give general information, any costs that may be associated with materials used in the equipment, how to use the basic features of the item, and any safety information.  If the equipment requires certification, the overview will also outline that specific process and give a link to the online quiz.

Certifications only need to be completed one time unless equipment changes or on the advice of a Makerspace host.

Every piece of equipment can be used for free. Outside materials are allowed on most machines. Read the overview for the equipment to determine what outside materials are acceptable.
